Dogdrop, a fast-growing dog care company, is seeking an experienced early stage people operations leader (generalist) to execute on Dogdrop's day-to-day people operations and further develop our culture, training, and development infrastructure for our corporate locations and franchise system. The ideal candidate has experience in a wide range of people operations areas - training & development, performance, payroll, scheduling, culture building, total rewards, HR/Compliance, recruiting, AND has ideally done so at a retail/physical service/franchise company that employed hourly staff. This person must have demonstrated success at least one early stage company.
We are dedicated to building a safe and happy place for our dog members, employees, and franchisees and this role will directly contribute to that sucess.
We are open to a fractional hire for this role.
The Role
- Your key responsibilities will include:
- Updating, designing, implementing, and improving People and HR policies & procedures (training, growth, total rewards, engagement, performance, etc.).
- Onboarding and offboarding employees and running payroll.
- Supporting Dogdrop employees throughout the employee lifecycle.
- Working with our retail operations folks, location managers, and franchisees to improve the delivery and effectiveness of employee onboarding and training.
- Proactively and thoughtfully addressing workplace and employee operations issues on an individual and systematic basis.
- Developing and maintaining internal communication strategies for People Ops programs and announcements.
- Curriculum development - visual, written, video, etc.
- Overseeing and enhancing inbound People Ops requests and employee self-service resources.
- Designing a variety of new resources ranging from online materials to standard operating procedures and improving existing SOPs to meet business-specific needs.
- Working with our employment law partner to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant regulations and requirements pertaining to risk and exposure to the company.
- Collaborating with team members and across functions to develop, document, and implement new programs, processes, events, and initiatives.
- Makes others better through work reviews, thorough documentation, area of expertise guidance, mentoring, and inspirational leadership.
- Creating standardized metrics and evaluation processes across people ops programs to ensure a data-driven approach when evaluating and addressing needs.
- Analyzing data and offering insight into the company and team-specific programs and policies and recommend solutions to achieve team goals and objectives.
- Leveraging data and analytics that allow us to ensure we’re making the best people decisions while moving at speed.
- Identifying and proposing strategies around technical problems affecting the team, communicates standards, and gets buy-in on solutions.

- You are a true people operations generalist that can get anything done. You can identify gaps and fill them, in order to build an incredible people ops function at our company.
- You know what metrics matter and how to track them so you they continuously improve.
- You know how to get the rest of the team on board to meet goals.
- You have incredible attention to detail in every aspect of what you do, from sending emails and slack messages to strategic documentation and reporting.
- You have comprehensive HR functional expertise. You're knowledgeable on employment law matters, immigration, and compliance & policy management.
- You have strong problem solving and critical thinking skills while exercising sound judgment.
- You have experience with People Operations technology management and implementation, with a data and insights-driven approach
- You are passionate about providing an extraordinary experience for employees at all levels
- You are confident in recommending projects or programs needed for achieving functional goals and implementing processes to ensure high-quality.
- You are employee and customer-centric. You understand that our goal is to provide great care to dogs and their parents, and you understand how important creating the right kind of culture is for living up to this goal.
- You are excited to work with location managers and franchisees to understand what they need and how to market their location successfully.
- You understand the nuances of brick and mortar/franchise businesses and how to market them well to local customers.
- You have successfully managed at least 1 direct report in a previous role and know what it takes to build and lead a team.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in all areas of people operations.
- 2+ years of people operations at an early stage company with proven success
- Multi-unit brick and mortar experience
- Strong communication, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; must be able to meet deadlines.
- Able to context switch, be fast thinking, strive in a changing environment, and re-organize priorities when things shift - we are a small team!
